Aboard National Geographic QUEST!
WILD BELIZE ESCAPE
PLUS EXPLORE THE RUINS OF THE MAYA WORLD
February 18-23, 2020

DEAR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS,
The eastern coast of Mesoamerica is little known and rarely visited via the sea. Since the days of the ancient Maya, who flourished along this coast some 1,500 years ago, civilization has had relatively little impact. Much of the region remains genuine wilderness, with large expanses of dense tropical forest, miles of wild rivers, abundant bird life—and the largest coral reef systems in North America.

Belize trip map

Stretched along this coast are literally hundreds of islands and atolls. Few cruise lines venture here; National Geographic Quest is the best way to get here and is the perfect platform for exploring. Using a fleet of Zodiacs, kayaks, and paddleboards, you’ll have the opportunity to explore crystalline waters and land on isolated cays, some inhabited by seabird colonies, others mere patches of sugar-white sand with a scatter of palm trees. The snorkeling is immensely satisfying, and National Geographic Quest is equipped with all the gear you need. And for those who want to and are certified to scuba dive, excursions can be arranged to fit seamlessly with our itinerary. You’ll also discover jungle rivers and mangrove lagoons—to give you the most complete sense of the incredible diversity of ecosystems here.

On the human side, there’s fascinating diversity as well—with Belize’s dual nature as a Central American and a Caribbean country. The region contains many cultures and languages, and a rich history—it was part of the great Maya civilization. In Guatemala, you'll have the opportunity to explore the storied ruins of Tikal, one of the most famous and extensive of the Maya sites, and go off-the-beaten track to discover beautiful Yaxhá.

Choose between two exciting itineraries: a new 6-day voyage to Belize, exploring its wildlife, reefs, and rivers, or a 9-day sea and land expedition combining Belize with the famous Maya ruins at Tikal. I hope you will choose to join us on one of these adventures. To make your reservation, please return the enclosed reservation form or call 800-252-4910.

Sincerely,
