"The leaders exceeded expectations.  Knowledgable naturalist staff with local knowledge of wildlife and culture.  Nat Geo photographer gave new perspectives. All leaders were approachable all of the time."   --  2017 Participant

When you see the Pacific Ocean from Cape Disappointment or the basalt cliffs of the Columbia River, you are taking in views shared by America’s great explorers. These awe-inspiring views are part of your carefully designed voyage that follows the path of the Lewis and Clark expedition that redrew the map of the American West.

You’ll sail further into history as you transit the Columbia River Gorge. Traveling by ship allows you to see time layered in the riverbanks, where the Missoula Floods of 15,000 years ago carved much of the route you travel, and the landslides of 500 years ago altered the river’s course by a full mile—something the expedition’s geologist will cover.

In fact, the full expedition team, with their informative talks and engaging companionship, puts everything into context, weaving a narrative from each day’s events. Even the ship’s hotel staff contributes to your appreciation of the region by introducing you to its burgeoning food and wine scene. Enjoy complimentary tastings aboard provided by local vintners and brewers, along with delicious food grown in the rich soil of the region.

You will also see some modern marvels of human engineering—the imposing systems of locks and large-span bridges. Plus, look forward to kayaking, hiking Beacon Rock, sampling beer and wine from local breweries and vineyards, and a visit to the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum.

From the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge to the dramatic silhouette of Mt. Hood, you’ll find photo ops around every bend. A Lindblad-National Geographic certified photo instructor is aboard to offer assistance and shooting tips to ensure top photos of this unique region.

We hope you’ll join us, October 9-15, 2019, on an expedition featuring the best of the region. To reserve your space on the Columbia and Snake Rivers voyage, please return the reservation form or call 800-252-4910.
