The Rivers of WEST AFRICA
The Gambia River
on board the yacht Harmony G

January 11 - 20, 2024

We will explore the Sine-Saloum Delta, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and an important area for breeding waterbirds. We will then sail south to explore along the 700-mile long Gambia River, including Banjul, the capital of The Gambia. Our journey will include the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve, with an enormous number of birds, manatees, crocodiles, and monkeys. We will continue upriver to Kuntaur and Janjanbureh (historic Georgetown).
See an African dance group and learn about their instruments and music. Travel by pirogue along the river edges to look for birds and other wildlife. Also visit River Gambia National Park, the Wassu mysterious stone circles, another World Heritage Site, and Kiang West National Park. We invite you to explore this magical land!

Join us on an exceptional exploration of the Dakar—Sine/Saloun Delta area, and the Gambia River, traveling on board the comfortable 44 passenger M/Y Harmony G. We will begin with a visit to Goree Island, a memorial to the slave trade. Enjoy optional excursions to cultural and natural points of interest, including the Sine/Saloun UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve, with a profusion of birdlife, monkeys, and more. Optional excursions are in local pirogues which brings income to the community so you pay separately on board for these excursions.

The itinerary includes Dakar and Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, plus village visits, excursions by pirogue, and African dance groups, instruments, and music. Typically, it will be in the 80’s with moderate humidity; it will be the dry season, though there could be some rain. This expedition will be an adventure for travelers in good health and with good mobility who would like to explore an intriguing part of the African world.

We hope you will join us on this exclusive cruise to see the wildlife and local cultures of the Gambia River.
