DEAR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS,
Mere miles beyond the bustling metropolis of New York City lies a quieter world waiting to be discovered. Join us on our Exploring the Hudson River: Fall Colors, Conservation & Creativity expedition and watch the region’s annual autumnal transformation unveil the striking colors of blaze-red maple trees and bright yellow aspens as the backdrop to your adventure. On an immersive 8-day voyage, you’ll leave New York Harbor behind to explore a part of New York you may never have known existed—full of natural beauty and the storied past of the quaint river towns that line the banks of the Hudson.
As a Betchart member, you know that traveling is more than just the seeing of sights. As we journey up the Hudson River, our team of naturalists, historians, and experts will fully immerse you in the intricate ecosystems and Americana art and culture that abound in this historic region to provide the deeper discovery you seek. Our unique itinerary provides exclusive access to the less-visited points of interest that distinguish the Hudson Valley from adjacent New England. Sail through the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve where we’ll observe wetland wildlife and rare plant species in the Rogers Island Wildlife Management Area and learn about the conservation efforts that help this river thrive. And enjoy the freedom of our flexible expedition timeline to take in a bit of solo exploration, paddling around the protected wetlands of Constitution Marsh.
Plus, there will be daily opportunities to immerse yourself in the rich history and culture that make this area unique. Visit the home of renowned landscape painter Thomas Cole, learn about the life and legacy of famed folk musician Pete Seeger in Kingston, and wander through towering sculptures at Storm King Art Center. Experience the fascinating history of the river towns firsthand as you debark to explore Bannerman Castle, an abandoned military storage facility on Pollepel Island and enjoy a tour of the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Round out your expedition with our grand finale destination—a stroll through the iconic village and cemetery of Sleepy Hollow as we listen to a spirited rendition of Washington Irving’s chilling tale.
It all starts aboard the 62-guest National Geographic Sea Lion, your base for an exceptional discovery of “America’s First River”. To reserve your space on the Exploring the Hudson River: Fall Colors, Conservation & Creativity voyage, please return the reservation form or call 800-252-4910.
Sincerely,
